Feeling GREEN: ATCs

The theme of the latest ATC (artist trading card) swap I participated in was “GREEN.” I have come to enjoy using color prompts. Keeping a color in mind is a great source of inspiration for me when I’m feeling uninspired. I find that having to represent the color directly in the piece gives me focus, yet invites me to explore ideas and creative ways to interpret the color. Sometimes it appears quite directly, sometimes less so. For this round of ATCs, the color green evolved more directly for me. Two are landscapes, kind of quickies and probably a “short cut” for interpreting green, but I’ve wanted to practice landscapes and this was a perfect chance to try on a tiny area. I tried to create a sense of big sky and space in my efforts. But my particular favorite is the swing. I would like to paint this on a larger scale than the 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ size of an ATC.

Specific colors come with their own energy and symbolic story. In what ways do colors inspire you?
